STARGAZER
Hudson Valley, New York

A retreat for tired legs and curious eyes. Taking queues from traditional bothies used by hikers and seasonal laborers in the Scottish Highlands, this stone bunkhouse is positioned in a quiet, tree-lined clearing on a larger property, offering rest and respite for the owner and their guests after long days on the trail with a front-row seat to the night sky.
Locally quarried stones shape the circular plan, accented by weathered steel framing the radial windows, an oversized entry portal, and the rooftop observatory. Smooth plaster and warm wood grain shape the interiors, offering discreet storage, private washrooms, cozy bunk beds, and a winding stair up to the rooftop. Above, a glass dome crowns the deck—fixed on one side, retractable on the other. With a turn of the crank wheel, the skies open to full view. A place to pause, reflect, and watch the heavens stir.
