CORONADO TUDOR
Phoenix, Arizona

In the Coronado Historic District, where preservation guidelines keep street-facing facades untouched, most renovations employ the "Mullet House" approach—historic in the front, unpredictable in the back.
Rather than simply maximizing the lot, the proposed extension respects the proportions of the original Tudor, repeating its footprint to house a new master suite. A long central connection, anchored by a fully equipped chef’s kitchen, then frames a generous central courtyard, providing a private outdoor space for hosting and gathering year-round.

The new gabled wing is clad in a variegated off-white brick, tying it to the existing structure, while the connecting central volume and deck provide a warm contrast with resilient Kebony—familiar wood textures applied with contemporary detailing. The result is a quiet retreat in a beloved historic enclave, shaped by tradition and reimagined for modern living.
